Shoppers will be able to get a flu vaccination at their local Tesco Pharmacy from next month.

People will pre-existing conditions can have the jab for free, while those who don’t qualify for the NHS vaccination can get protected for £9.

Customers can book a slot online for appointments at Tesco Pharmacy stores from September.

The vaccinations are being offered as part of Tesco’s Helping you to live Healthier partnership with the British Heart Foundation, Diabetes UK and Cancer Research UK, in a bid to encourage more people to be immunised against flu.

The supermarket giant is leveraging ease of access and convenience to attract customers to its programme, citing ‘longer opening hours than many GP surgeries and high-street pharmacies’ enabling shoppers to ‘get vaccinated at a time that fits around their schedule including evenings and weekends’.

Adrian Price, Tesco superintendent pharmacist said: 'We want to make getting your vaccination as easy as doing the weekly shop.

‘We’re doing all we can to make it as convenient as possible for people to get their flu jab to protect themselves and their families. This is the most important flu jab ever for those at risk.’

Earlier this month community pharmacy contractors were told they would receive £9.58 per flu vaccination during the 2021/22 season, despite calls for an increase in payments to reflect additional pressures and costs.
