McKesson UK boss Toby Anderson will step down from his role today after three years with the company.

In an announcement, published today (11 May), pharmaceutical wholesaler McKesson UK confirmed Mr Anderson would be leaving with ‘immediate effect’ but did not explain why.

This comes just a month after McKesson UK – also the parent company of LloydsPharmacy – was acquired by private equity firm Aurelius Group.

Dominik Meüser, a spokesperson for Aurelius, said the firm was ‘extremely grateful for the commitment Toby has demonstrated over the years to help us achieve the McKesson vision of becoming the UK’s leading healthcare organisation.

‘As well as helping to turnaround the profitability of our business, Toby also oversaw our inspirational response to the Covid-19 pandemic, where we ensured that our customers and patients could continue to receive the vital medicines and services they needed,’ he added.

‘We remain focused on delivering great services for our customers and patients across our individual businesses. Through our core businesses – LloydsPharmacy, LloydsPharmacy Clinical Homecare, and AAH – we play a vital role in protecting the health of communities across the country and we have an exciting opportunity to grow and improve our businesses even more over the next few years,’ he explained.

Mr Anderson has been approached for comment.

In July last year, McKesson sold its European businesses to the Phoenix Group and in November announced the sale of its UK arm to Aurelius for £477m.

These moves, McKesson said at the time, were part of a broader enterprise strategy to fully exit the European region.

Last year, Lloyds expanded its digital arm and added an online video GP service to its app that offers patients a same-day appointment.

Mr Anderson previously told The Pharmacist that McKesson had invested more in its online services, including LloydsDirect, Lloydspharmacy.com to offer patients ‘greater choice in how they access treatment and care
