Pharmacy funding cuts will force employers to cut the number of hours they employ locums, 18% of respondents to a survey have said.
The Pharmacist’s ongoing survey of the pharmacy workforce has so far revealed that 27% of respondents believe that all roles in their pharmacy will have their hours cut, and just under a fifth believe locum hours will be reduced.
A further 16% of respondents said they considered locums' role to be 'at risk' due to the cuts.
The 149 current respondents include contractors, superintendents, pharmacists, locums, and other pharmacy staff from around the UK.
One respondent to the survey said: “I have been released from regular locum slots as the contractor is understandably concerned [about] the cuts. He is also not allowing a pay rise this year again, and a vacancy at the pharmacy is not being filled.”
Another said: “My two locums are anxious what would be my next move [and have] already hinted on some changes to their terms”
Results from The Pharmacist’s survey last week showed that 97% of 89 respondents believed the cuts would increase their workload.
