The Pharmacist has scooped an award for its work on speaking out on behalf of independent pharmacies.
The magazine landed the prize for Best Support for Independent Pharmacies at the Avicenna Media Awards at a ceremony at the Royal Society of Chemistry in central London on Friday (25 January).
The judges were impressed by the magazine's 'empathy' in reporting the issues faced by independent pharmacies and name-checked our War On Shortages campaign, which highlights the problems caused by medicines supply issues and aims to increase Government transparency around shortages.
The 10th annual Media Awards – led by the independent support group Avicenna – aimed to showcase the hard work by pharmacy journalists to report on issues that really matter to the sector.
'Absolutely delighted'
Judges for the Best Support for Independent Pharmacies category were asked to 'honour the title that best supports our sector', prove that it 'takes our issues seriously...and campaign on our behalf'.
The Pharmacist's editor-in-chief Beth Kennedy said: 'We are absolutely delighted to have won this award. As a title that prides itself on standing up for independent pharmacists and all the incredible work that they do, it truly is a real honour to be recognised by the sector in this way.
'However, there is still much more that The Pharmacist can – and will – do to champion our independent readership, and we look forward to sharing that work with you over the coming months.'
